Most crowns in the past have been made from porcelain bonded to a metal core. A good technician can make these look very good and the crowns are very strong. Newer all ceramic crowns have no metal but are now nearly as strong. Because of the lack of metal they can look very natural. The most important factor however are the skills of the dentist and technician. The very best technicians are expensive.
