Dental
Implants ...
Alan Bell has been placing dental implants since 1996 and is very
pleased to be able to offer this exciting form of treatment to his
patients.
He
regularly attends courses to keep up to date with new developments
in this area and has undergone training in Berne, Switzerland with
some of the world's implantology experts.
At
Wye Dental Surgery we use the Straumann implant system. This company
has over 25 years of data showing its system to be extremely effective
and is one of the leading implant providers worldwide.
What
does the treatment involve?
- the
implant, which can be imagined as a metal tooth root, is placed
underneath the gum where it becomes one with the surrounding
bone.
- local
anaesthesia is used
- the
procedure feels similar to having a filling, but takes a little
longer
- there
is usually only slight discomfort afterwards for a few days
in simple cases.
- the
tooth is usually built up from 6 weeks after placement. A longer
time may be needed in certain circumstances.
- sometimes
it is possible to place the implant and build up the missing tooth
at the same time
- careful
planning and placement of the implant can give an excellent cosmetic
result - so important at the front of the mouth.
All
the treatment stages:- planning, implant placement, and final reconstruction
are performed here at Wye. For you this means a simpler, more straight
forward procedure. Also, because the same person is involved from
start to finish, it is easier to achieve a more predictable, successful
result.
Who
can have dental implants?
Almost
everybody. If there is a problem arising from your medical history
you will be informed. Age is not a contraindication in itself. Our
upper limit so far is 92 years!
It
is essential that your mouth is in good condition before implants
are placed and that you maintain good oral cleanliness.
